And lo, I am with you all the days till the conclusion of the age.”

Where did ‘Sunday School’ come from?

Children did not usually attend school during the 18th century. Instead, they worked on farms or in factories six days a week, with many never learning to read or write. Children will surely do better when they can read the Bible and share by word or pen God's message of hope and truth? Around 1780, William Fox, a London merchant, was looking for ways to educate the poor so that they could read the Bible. He had read about a school for children, where classes were conducted on Sunday -- the only day that the children were able to attend. William started a Sunday school for the children, with this innovative practice for education spreading to America. Elder William White, working with others for more than forty years, labored from Philadelphia to establish Sunday schools. When government later moved to take over education, school was moved to 5 days a week; while the practice of ‘Sunday School’ waned to a brief, weekly encounter with small fragments recounted from the Bible.

 Teaching through training: working together

Eye surgeon, Dr. Victor Rambo, sailed for India in 1924 with the message of Jesus Christ and the steady hand He gave. This would be a place where the need for his heart to service was great. Victor sought to find more workers, and he worked to train students. He even held his students’ hands in his own to help lend them the best in surgical technique. He arranged eye camps in the villages of India, and was quick to work together with others who cared and could help prepare people both for eye surgery and ageless life. Thousands in India recovered their sight; many who were once blind, now can see Jesus.
