Death to Self

Take Up Your Cross
Mark 8:34-35 “Then he called the crowd to Him along with his disciples and said, If anyone would come after me, he must deny/renounce himself and take/pick up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life/soul will lose/destroy it, but whoever loses/destroys his life for Me and for the gospel will be saving it.
Luke 9:23-24 “Then he said to them all: If anyone would come after me, he must deny/disown himself and take/pick up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever may be wanting to save his life/soul will lose/destroy it, but whoever loses/destroys his life on My account will be saving it.
Matthew 10:38 “Anyone who is not taking his cross and following Me is not worthy of Me.”
Luke 14:25-33 “If anyone is coming to Me without hating his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and even his own life/soul, he cannot be a disciple of mine. Anyone who will not take up his cross and follow in My footsteps cannot be My disciple. If any of you wanted to build a tower, wouldn't he first sit down and work out the cost of it, to see if he has what he will need to finish it? Otherwise, when he has laid the foundation and found himself unable to complete the building, everyone who sees it will begin to jeer/scoff at him, saying, This is the man who started to build a tower but couldn't finish it!'… So it is with you; only the man who says good-bye to [takes leave of] his possessions can be My disciple.”

The Death Sentence
Galatians 5:24 “Now those of Christ Jesus crucify/mortify the flesh together with its passions and lusts.”
I Peter 2:24 “And he personally bore/carried our sins in His own body on the cross, so that we might be coming away from sins and living righteousness.”
Colossians 3:3-7 “For, as far as this world is concerned, you are already dead, and your true life is hid together with Christ. Whenever Christ, our Life, is revealed, then you will also share in His magnificent revelation. Deaden/mortify your members on/of the earth: prostitution, uncleanness, unrestrained passion, evil desire, and greed -- which is itself idolatry. It is because of these very things that the holy anger of God is coming/falling upon those who refuse to obey Him. Recall that you had your part in those things when you lived in them.”
Romans 6:11-14 “In the same way, look upon yourselves to be dead to sin, but/yet living to God through Christ Jesus our Lord. Do not, then, allow sin to establish any power over your mortal bodies in making you obey its lusts. Nor hand over your bodily parts to be, as it were, weapons of evil/injustice, to sin. But, like men rescued from certain death, put yourselves in God's hands as weapons/implements of righteousness to God. For sin can never be mastering you; you are not under the law, but under grace.”
Romans 7:4-6 “So, my brothers, the body of Christ has made you dead to the claims of the Law, freeing you to belong to Another, the One who was raised from the dead, that we may be bearing fruit for God. When we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, these drove our members through the law to be bearing fruit to/of death. Yet now we are exempted from the Law; its claims which existed are dissolved by our dying, and we are free to serve God, not in the old obedience to the letter of the Law, but in a newness of Spirit.”
Romans 8:12-13 “It follows, my friends, we are not in debt to the flesh -- for if you live according to the flesh you are about to be dying by it. Yet, if by the Spirit you put to death the practices of the body, then you will be living.”
John 12:24 “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who is fond of his life/soul is destroying it, while the man who hates his life/soul in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
Romans 12:1-2 “With eyes wide open to the mercies of God, I beg you, my brothers, as an act of intelligent/logical divine service/worship, to give Him your bodies, as a living sacrifice, consecrated to Him and acceptable by Him. Don't let the world squeeze/configure you to this present age, but let God remake/transform you by the renewing of your mind, for you to be testing what is the will of God, good and well-pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 6:2-11 “We who have died to sin, how could we live in sin a moment longer? Have you forgotten that all of us who were baptized into Jesus Christ were, by that very action, sharing in his death? We were dead and buried with Him in baptism, so that just as He was raised from the dead by that splendid revelation of the Father's power, so we too should be walking in newness of life. If we have been planted together in His death, we shall also share in His resurrection. Let us never forget that our old human was crucified with Him that the tyranny/body of sin might be broken/nullified, for one who dies has been justified from sin. And if we were dead men with Christ we can believe that we will also be men alive with Him. We can be sure that the risen Christ is no longer dying; death's power to master Him is finished. He died, because of sin, once; he lives for God forever. So reckon yourselves to be dead and unresponsive to sin, and instead be living to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Galatians 6:14 “Yet God forbid that I should boast about anything or anybody except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by/through which the world is dead/crucified to me and I to the world.”

II Timothy 2:11 “Faithful is this saying: If we died with Him we shall also live with Him.
II Corinthians 5:15,17 “And if He died for all that those who are living should now be no longer be living for themselves, but for/to Him who died and was raised to life for their sakes… For if anyone is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether; the primitive is passed by and gone, there has come the new.”
Titus 2:11 “For the saving grace of God has appeared to all humanity. Teaching/training us to disown ungodliness and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright/just and godly/devout lives in this present age.”
Ephesians 4:22-25 “So put off your old self, which made you live as you used to, with its corrupted and deceitful desires. Be rejuvenated/transformed in the spirit of your mind. You must put on the new humanity, which is in accord with God, created in uprightness and simplicity of the truth. Wherefore, put off falsehood; let each one be speaking the truth, for we are members of one another.”
Galatians 2:19-20 “For I, through the law, died to the law, that I may be living for God. I died on the cross with Christ. And my present life is not that of the old I, but the living Christ within me. This life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and sacrificed Himself for me.”
Colossians 3:1 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking that which is above.”
